Hurricane Harvey Anniversary, Busy Labor Day Weekend Ahead, New Photos/Videos & MORE – ROFFS™ Fishy Times – 242nd Edition – August 29th, 2018

ROFFS™ Releases Hurricane Harvey NASA Rapid Response Project Final Report ROFFS™ would like to announce the release on our website of the NASA Hurricane Harvey Rapid Response Project Final Report.  On the one year anniversary of this epic hurricane we remain fully aware that many things are still not back to normal and that many are still cleaning up and rebuilding.  Our thoughts and prayers remain with those affected by this storm. This project succeeded in tracking, mapping and spatially analyzing the freshwater plume runoff in the northwest Gulf of Mexico resulting from Hurricane Harvey hitting the Texas coast on August 25, 2017 using a combination of ocean color and infrared satellite imagery. Twenty-four weeks of satellite data were derived from NASA, NOAA and the European Space Agency (ESA) using a variety of polar orbiting platforms. It was determined that the freshwater plume signal, derived primarily from sea surface derived chlorophyll measurements, had a surface area expansion peak and mean of 2.14 and 1.57 times the pre-storm mean within the northwest Gulf of Mexico. Information is provided on the ROFFS™ website ( and has been publicized widely through social media, press releases, and the ROFFS™ Fishy Times newsletter.  The results are being sent directly to a variety of agencies and fisheries managers via email. In addition, the distribution included fishers, as well as, the general public including educators and government representatives. The data is available via ROFFS™ website or upon request (, 321-723-5759). Please click HERE to read more on our website now! One Year Later: Reflecting on Hurricane Harvey! It has been over a year since Hurricane Harvey touched down and hovered over Houston for several long days. While Buffalo Bayou was greatly impacted by the historic flooding, with a record 39 feet at Shepherd Drive Bridge, the waterway has made a dramatic comeback. Please know Buffalo Bayou Partnership will continue its mission of transforming and revitalizing Houston’s most significant natural resource.
