The boat carrying Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen when they vanished last summer has been found off the coast of Bermuda, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

On March 18 while en route to Norway, a multi-purpose vessel named Edda Fjord discovered a capsized boat about 100-miles off of Bermuda. The commission confirmed the boat belonged to Austin Stephanos.

Families of both Austin and Perry were immediately notified of the new developments.

“Out of respect for the families, the FWC allowed them to release the information in their own time,” said PIO Rob Klepper.

Personal effects were found on board, but have not been specified by officials at this time. The boat is scheduled to arrive by shipping container to the United States on May 16th.

Perry’s mom Pamela Cohen shared her thoughts on the new discovery in a post on Facebook.

“This is an open missing persons case, and we hope that FWC reopens their investigation,” Pamela writes.

She mentions that an iPhone was recovered from the boat with hopes that agencies will be able to “extrapolate data” that would help piece together the puzzle of what happened.

Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen, both 14, were out on a fishing trip on Friday, July 24th when they vanished. They were last seen leaving the Jupiter Inlet heading out to sea when a line of summer storms moved through the area.

The U.S. Coast Guard initially discovered the 19-foot Seacraft boat in the Atlantic Ocean days after their disappearance. It was found capsized about 67-nautical miles off the Ponce De Leon Inlet in the Daytona Beach area.

By the time a salvage crew got to the site, the vessel was gone.

For several weeks, the Coast Guard and private groups searched over 25,000 square miles of ocean, but the teens were never found.

The Perry J. Cohen Foundation released an official statement Saturday thanking the Captain of the Edda Fjord vessel responsible for discovering and recovering the boys missing boat.

On behalf of Perry’s entire family we would like to thank the Captain of the Norwegian Ship Edda Fjord and his crew of 16 for all your efforts in recovering and salvaging the Vessel in which our son and his dear friend disappeared on. We sincerely appreciate the generosity of you and your company Edda Accommodation in financing the shipment of the vessel and private belongings back to the United States. The actions of yourself, crew and company will hopefully provide more details for us with the hopes of finding out what exactly happened to our son and his friend.
