O-Ring Stop

Using a small rubber O-Ring is one of the best ways to reduce a baited hook from inadvertently doubling back onto itself as pictured. Not only is this useful when trolling or drifting with any live bait but also an excellent addition to any baited hook including J-hooks and dead bait. Captain Dickie gives full credit to Pete Schultz of Fishing Headquarters in Jupiter, Florida for showing him this tip.

O-Ring is placed where you want your hook to stop.

“I use O-rings on every hook we fish,” Dickie says. Make sure your O-Rings fit securely to the hook’s shank.

O-Ring is positioned flush and secure to the bait.

Bonus Use: Captain Dickie also uses the O-Ring for a stinger rig when targeting toothy critters like kingfish. Picture is a Blue Runner live bait rig with the O-Ring securing the wire against the forward hook shank.
