Travel to Cuba Now Permitted by Boat Articles courtesy: & | originally published 9/18/2015

On Friday, September 18 the White House Administration released new rules surrounding travel to Cuba. As a part of the new rules, persons traveling to Cuba will now be able to do so by vessel whether for hire for recreation. This puts boating on parity with other forms of transportation, which initially was restricted to air travel only.

Travelers must still follow all guidelines and travel purposes, however the announcement was a momentus step forward for the boating industry.

Treasury and Commerce Announce Further Amendments to the Cuba Sanctions Regulations

Today, the Department of the Treasury and the Department of Commerce are announcing additional revisions to the Cuban Assets Control Regulations (CACR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR), building off the changes put into place by Treasury and Commerce on January 16, 2015 and further delivering on the new direction toward U.S. relations with Cuba that President Obama laid out last December.  The changes, consistent with the President’s December announcement, will take effect on Monday, September 21, 2015, when the regulations are published in the Federal Register.  A fact sheet detailing the revisions, which will be administered by Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), is below.

A kayak fisherman in California was forced to fend off a “super aggressive” hammerhead shark with his paddle after it repeatedly attempted to ram his vessel.

Mark McCracken filmed the 15-minute encounter while he fished for bonito half a mile off Gaviota State Beach, near Santa Barbara, on Saturday.

“It hit the back of my kayak twice and I turned around to see it,” McCracken told NBC News. “I couldn’t tell if he was biting [the kayak] or if he was head-butting it but soon as I saw it I just started going at him with the paddle.”

The shark was “super aggressive,” said McCracken, a 33-year-old construction worker from Santa Maria, California.
