UPDATED ON FRIDAY 20 JANUARY 2017 FOR FRIDAY P.M. & SATURDAY FISHING ONLY

Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot dots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action are expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location. 1 fathom = approximately 6 feet. Afternoon SST is likely to be 1.0°F greater than indicated by the morning calibration on this analysis.

We were able to see the majority of this area clearly this afternoon and follow some of the main ocean conditions the past three days to locate the better areas for tuna, swordfish, wahoo, dolphin, kingfish and billfish action. The morning temperature of the main core body of the Gulf Stream is approximately 80.5°F. Overall, there are three smaller eddies in this area, one over the Big Ammo Dump area, one south of Edisto Banks approaching the 226 Hole and another just offshore of Triple Wreck. There is also a larger eddy coming up from the south with the very leading edge just coming into the southern charted area over the 50 fathom ledges. We have indicated with arrows and hot spot dots where we expect the water to move according to the flow of the Gulf Stream and related eddies for your better chances for fishing action tomorrow morning. This time of year in the winter months, you are probably better off looking for the 70.0°F water or warmer and the strongest water mass boundaries over good bottom structure especially the Gulf Stream related filaments and main edges. We did have some cloud cover issues offshore and in the very northern charted area. We also included an ocean color/chlorophyll image from this afternoon so you can see the approximate color of the water (e-mail only, white = clouds).

Georgetown/Charleston: Fishing the northern charted area, we recommend you head offshore first to the 25-30 fathom ledges and good bottom area along the bluer-green 71.0°F to 73.0°F to 74.0°F water mass boundary favorable for two days then to the 50 fathom ledges near 79°05-10’W & 32°15-18’N. From there fish northeast to the edges of the warmer 75.0°F to 76.0°F Gulf Stream filament edges near the 50-100 fathom ledges near 78°55’W – 79°00’W & 32°18’N. If that does not produce we suggest you hit the more direct western edges of the Gulf Stream (75.0°F to 79.5°F) where it has been favorable for two to three days and we expect it to remain good for the next 12-24 hours near 79°00-01’W & 32°07-08’N to the Little Dump and 380 Hole area near 78°51-55’W & 32°08-09’N extending east-northeast and offshore along this same Gulf Stream edge over the mid to southern edges of the Big Ammo Dump (favorable for two days). Equally as favorable conditions will occur southwest over the 100 fathom ledges to the 226 Hole where the main edges of the Gulf Stream should also be pushing near by tomorrow near 79°05-07’W & 32°00-03’N. On your way offshore, you may want to try the stronger inshore filament edges (67.5°F/68.5°F to 70.0°F/71.0°F/72.0°F) near the 20 fathom ledges and near the 41004 buoy area where favorable for two days near79°06-12-13’W & 32°26-29’N. Farther north if you wish to fish the Georgetown Hole area it has been favorable for up to three days near the Georgetown Hole with a 72.0°F to 74.0°F water mass boundary but it does not look as favorable as farther south. On your way offshore to Georgetown Hole you will first want to try the green to bluer 71.0°F to 73.0°F/74.0°F water mass boundary over good bottom and the 50 fathom ledges near 78°48-52’W & 32°30-35’N.

Savannah: Fishing the southern charted area, we highly suggest you make your way to the strong water mass boundary north and east of the Deli (66.5°F/67.5°F to 72.0°F) near 79°43’W & 31°35’N extending west-southwest to near 79°50-55’W & 31°31-32’N to near 80°00-01’W & 31°25-29’N extending farther southwest along this same strong inshore water mass boundary to over the 20 fathom ledges as indicated (favorable for two to three days). If that does not produce fish the Deli area and northeast where we expect the more direct Gulf Stream edges (72.0°F/73.0°F to 77.2°F) to be tomorrow and have been for two to three days near 79°45’W & 31°27’N northeast to near 79°37-38’W & 31°36-37’N and northeast along the 50 fathom ledges. Equally as favorable conditions will occur south-southwest along over Triple Ledge to South Ledge where this same water mass boundary (72.0°F/73.0°F to 77.2°F) has been favorable for two days for fishing action near 79°52-53’W & 31°19-20’N to near 79°53-55’W & 31°33-35-36-38’N and extending south-southwest inshore of the 50 fathom ledges as indicated. Otherwise, head another 3-4 miles offshore near the 80-100 fathom ledges to fish the main western edges of the Gulf Stream (77.2°F/79.5°F to 80.5°F) where favorable for two to three days from near 79°48-48’W & 31°12’N extending northeast along the 80-100 fathom ledges to near 79°37-38’W & 31°30-31’N to near 79°30-31’W & 31°38-39’N. On your way offshore a little farther north a good place to start is the stronger inshore filament edges (66.5°F/67.5°F to 72.0°F/73.0°F) near the 20-22 fathom depths and favorable for two to three days near 79°40-45-48’W & 31°50-55’N – 32°00’N.

Eastern Side: The eastern edges of the Gulf Stream will also increase your chances for fishing action especially along the stronger 80.5°F to 78.0°F filament edges near indicated especially where favorable for two days near 79°05’W & 31°05’N to near 79°110-12’W & 30°45-50’N.
