Drone Fishing for Giant Redfish!              Amazing aerial footage capturing the largest redfish ever videoed being caught on drone – from the lure hitting the water, to the strike, to the landing and release. Rob Chapman IV, Blair Ashton, and Captain Jon Lulay were fishing with in East Central, Florida over the biggest inshore school of breeder redfish in the world, and SaltyShore’s Sam Root videoed the action from his DJI Phantom III. Once we started fishing the school of over 400 redfish – which were all way over the size limit and approaching world record size – Sam positioned the drone to film the school. Footage is from their practice run, one week before the South Jersey Shark Tournament. El Cid III would end up winning the tournament with a 360lb mako. Yellowfin Tuna Genetic Research – Fin Clip Samples Needed! This will Help Everyone!The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory is conducting a study of genetic stock structure of yellowfin tuna in the Atlantic ocean. The yellowfin tuna is a highly mobile tropical tuna that has the potential to travel long distances but the actual degree of connectivity among regional populations within the Atlantic is still largely unknown.The objective of this project is to employ new genomic methods to study stock structure within the Atlantic and the degree of mixing among geographic stocks. The first project phase focuses on establishing a baseline genetic profile of yellowfin tuna regional populations in the east and west Atlantic. To establish this baseline, we are looking for samples (fin clips) from juvenile yellowfin tunas from the Gulf of Mexico and southeast United States that will be used in conjunction with samples from other nursery areas in a comparative study.
