Here’s a fantastic video that shows the fish tagging process. Once the fish is caught from the trap, FWC scientists begin the surgery. A small incision is made in the fish’s belly and an acoustic transmitter is placed inside. After the fish is sutured with dissolvable stitches and its length is measured, the fish gets one more external tag, then it is released. When the fish swims near the array of acoustic receivers, the receivers record the fish’s unique ID. [Video Credit: FWC/FWRI]
