REGIONAL ANALYSIS FROM ATLANTIS CANYON TO CAPE HATTERAS (LAT./LONG.)

We are providing this large area view of the conditions from the area east of the Hudson Canyon to the area south of the Norfolk Canyon for our clients who have ordered two areas along with our unlimited plan clients. We were able to see this area fairly clearly over the last 24 hours and we are providing both an infrared based analysis from today and an ocean color image from yesterday. The estimated sea surface temperature (sst) of the Gulf Stream is 83.0°F and is directed northeastward at a relatively low angle from Cape Hatteras as it was Sunday.
The eddy that was southeast of the Norfolk Canyon has degraded substantially but the combination of the clockwise rotation of the remaining circulation feature and the offshore motion of the Gulf Stream continues to pull the water from the Norfolk Canyon in a southeastward motion which is not a favorable motion for creating new concentrations of fish. However, as there has been an abundance of tuna (bigeye and yellowfin) and marlin we anticipate that the fishing action will continue. It is noteworthy that the offshore motion over the last 24 hours does not seem as strong as it was between Sunday and Monday. Some of the southeastward motion is being balanced by the clockwise circulation associated with the other degrading eddy that occurs over 1200-1300 fathom depths between the Poor Mans Canyon and Washington Canyon. This circulation is bringing more Gulf Stream water from an elongated filament of Gulf Stream water that occurs just north of the main body of the Gulf Stream. The good news yesterday and today is that the western boundary of the blue water is over the 1000 fathom curve of the Washington Canyon suggesting that fishing action may improve over the next couple of days. However, the amount of fish over the Norfolk Canyon may still provide better chances for fishing action depending on how many fish are being pulled toward the eddy and how the fish react to offshore flow of the water over the Norfolk Canyon. Better action would happen if this eddy was pushing into the 100 fathom curve, but this is not likely to occur.
The circulation of the Poor Mans – Washington Canyon eddy is pulling the water from the northern Poor Mans Canyon and the Baltimore Canyon in an unfavorable offshore direction and also bringing greener water offshore. This is not all bad news as many times the offshore motion of the water brings coastal bait fish further offshore to places like the Rock Piles and southern side of Poor Mans Canyon. The offshore motion of the water does not appear to be affecting the conditions over the Wilmington Canyon.
Offshore between the Wilmington Canyon and the Baltimore Canyon a filament of blue water reached the 1000 fathom curve from the 1500 fathom depths. It remains to be seen if there are any fish associated with this water.
Of the northern canyon areas the finger shaped pool of blue water that was over the mouth of the Hudson Canyon has drifted westward and fishing action is very likely to improve over the 100 – 200 fathom depths southwest of the Hudson Canyon.
The water northeast of the Hudson Canyon is moving southward over the Hudson Canyon and then southwestward. East of the Hudson Canyon the eddy continues to remain stationary
